Chicago

I spent Presidents Day weekend in Chicago with a couple of friends. Sometimes you just need to take a break from New York and Chicago was the perfect escape. We filled our days with good food and wine, visits to the Bean and constant admiration of the amazing architecture. While nights were spent with great company, the occasional jazz bar and a gay club.

Firstly let me talk about the Bean or Cloud Gate as it is officially known. We were staying a literal 5 minutes away and although it is the ultimate tourist trap we visited it about 3 times. It's pretty mesmerising, especially as it's surrounded by stunning architecture of which Chicago is renowned for.

So more on the architecture - Chicago is the birthplace of the skyscraper - and if you pay attention and look up you see the most beautiful buildings. We even took a train ride out to visit Frank Lloyd Wright's Robie House in Hyde Park, which was well worth the visit.

On to the food which kind of defined our trip! We whiled away mornings with brunch and mimosas at Atwood Cafe and Sable. Had Mexican food in Old Town at Adobo Grill, had wine and cheese at The Purple Pig, and Italian tapas at Quartino. We danced the night away at Berlin and listened to jazz at Buddy Guy's Legends.

Another must see is the Art Institute of Chicago Museum, filled to the brim with paintings, sculptures and photography. As well as a fantastic restuarant Terzo Piano.

All in all a pretty great weekend!
